aviemore log cabins

Luxury Lodges Scotland - 5 star Eco lodges (sleeps 4 in each lodge) close to Inverness. - Due to the proximity of the Lochans, the owner has chosen that there should be no children under 16

Now I'm not really sure that I should have had a holiday log cabin in this guide of the BEST 100 self catering in Scotland. I have stayed in many over the years and have grown a little tired of them, sometimes they now show their age too much. But I had to make an exception for these Lodges.

Built from untreated larch, they are carbon neutral. The main heating is powered by a ground source heat pump, with solar panels as a secondary power source. The lodges have many outstanding features including underfloor heating on all levels, a multi-room sound system, a wood-burning stove, bespoke furniture made by a local craftsman and natural materials throughout. The beds and tables were made using elm grown on the farm. The slates are reclaimed and landscaping uses only indigenous species including rowan and birch.

The solid oak kitchen is fully equipped with top quality modern appliances including a dishwasher, fridge-freezer and washer-drier. This 21st century technology combines effortlessly with the natural materials used in the units and flooring to create a relaxed ambience.

The spacious lounge comprises comfortable sofas, and all the technology expected in one of the best self catering properties in Scotland. The dining area comprises a dining table crafted from home-grown elm. The kitchen and hall have natural stone floors and all other rooms have oak floors. A bathroom, spacious hallway and large decking areas complete the ground floor. The oak and glass staircase leads to the mezzanine floor, which hosts a whirlpool bath in its own special area of the lodge. The top floor has a very comfortable twin bedroom with high ceilings, built in wardrobes and craftsman-made beds. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, again craftsman-made in elm, a balcony with table and chairs and outstanding views over-looking farmland and beyond to the Moray Firth.

To me this is the future of the best in Scottish self catering, beautiful, stylish accommodation in the most dramatic scenery built with great care and done in such a way that the impact on environment is completely negative.

The lodges are unsuitable for children under the age of 16 and pets.
