5 star self catering scotland

Muirhall, 5 star self catering Scotland ( 4 + 4 + 4 + 2 )

Where do you go if you want to get a real taste of Scotland? Do you stay in Edinburgh where you can visit the Castle, the Botanic Gardens and all the wonderful Theatres? Or Glasgow, the Cutural Capital, with great architecture, Museums and Galleries like the Kelvingrove or the Museum of Modern Art? Or do you want to take in the spectacular landscape of Loch Lomond, or Stirling, the pivotal point of revolution. Or would you prefer to visit Jedburgh in the gentle lowlands? or the mechanical genius of the Falkirk Wheel? This is a dilema, solved by Muirhall. Centred between Glasgow and Edinburgh you can visit all of these easily.

Muirhall's natural features combine with contemporary  style to produce one of Scotland's finest group of holiday homes. These five star self catering accommodations feature historic architecture, rescued from ruins by clever design, quality of materials and attention to detail. Replacing eroded holes with velux windows, and stone fireplaces formerly full of feathers and dust with roaring  open fires. The result of this effort is is a spectacular harmony between the old stone building and the finest of modern day craftsmanship.

In their cottage; The Hayloft, a wooden bridge is an unusual link between the two upstairs bedrooms, offering a special twist to a stunning accommodation. Their cottage; The Ruin, is a palace of irony, in which a stone archway leads through the thick original stonewall dividing the spacious kitchen from the equally spacious lounge; an architectural wonder for the parents and a mystical gateway for the kids. These and the other cottages are both family friendly and redolent with unique style. You could spend a lot of your stay exploring and admiring Muirhall, but this would be a shame as it is situated so close to the pretty historical town of Biggar and the redeveloped mill town of New Lanark set on the edge of the River Clyde.

In my last trip here, the Edinburgh Festival was in full swing.  I watched David O'Doherty take centre stage bringing tears of laughter to the crowd. After the show it was a pleasure to travel the short distance to Muirhall. The very next morning, after a long nights sleep in a bed fit for a Laird, I took a trip to Scotland's other major city, Glasgow, to experience the cultural background of India at Kelvingrove Park's Benga festival, a journey incorporating traditional experiences of rich Indian food, fashion and music.

Muirhall is situated in the perfect Scottish location: the peaceful county of Lanarkshire, with a 5 star self catering rating.
