Luxury self catering Cupar St Andrews - sleeps 6

Luxury modern timber clad house in scenic location

The pretty hamlet of Chance Inn sits in the heart of the lovely Kingdom of Fife, midway between the Tay and the Firth of Forth, surrounded by farmland, woodland and hills. Bag End is easily recognised as you come into the hamlet - an unusual and striking timber house set in attractive gardens overlooking the countryside, an intriguing design which I am keen to see inside.

A lot of time, patience and hard work has gone into making Bag End and it has definitely paid off. Part of the building is now the owners' private home while the other part forms a separate luxurious holiday home full of interesting, stylish touches and design features. Downstairs is floored with beautiful Italian porcelain heated from beneath and furnished with genuine vintage pieces. Large French windows in the living room give great views of the gardens and countryside and access to outdoors. The unusually shaped kitchen is fitted with solid oak, exceptionally well equipped and stocked with plenty of basics.

A wonderful cherry staircase takes us upstairs where we find more lovely features such as the curved master bedroom with its impressive vaulted ceiling and a fantastic bathroom where the classic roll top bath sits in two gorgeous solid wooden plinths. Light floods the house wherever you go and there's always a ,lovely view from the windows.

Out in the gardens, there's an orchard, lawn, a patio with an enormous chess set and wonderful wooden climbing frames which would be a huge bonus for guests with younger children.

Just a mile from Bag End is the delightful historic village of Ceres where we find two inns, a village green, a burn, a local independent butcher, village shop, post office, pottery and tucked away in a row of old cottages and the Fife Folk Museum, a very interesting wee place which gives a colourful history of rural Fife and is well worth a visit.

A little further on, the royal burgh of Cupar, medieval in character, sits alongside the river Eden - there are plenty of shops and historic buildings to visit here, including the impressive Edwardian Hill of Tarvit Mansionhouse. The gardens here are are lovely, with plenty to explore, interesting walks to follow and there's a good cafe too.
