Have you ever wanted to get away from it all ?

A fully equipped self catering hebridean holiday cottage with a huge difference, it enjoys the most extraordinary views from its lounge windows - a stream running through the garden, the loch itself, and an island of trees which houses otters, swans and a host of other birds. Beyond is the village of Askernish, but the accommodation is so secluded that few people are aware of its presence.

The cottage is just over a mile from the beach and the famous ‘Tom Morris’ Askernish golf course, 4 miles from the Ferry Terminal at Lochboisdale and 20 miles from the airport at Benbecula. A welcome pack of basics will ensure your visit gets of to a great start

South Uist is an island of outstanding beauty and contrasts that has plenty to offer anyone who wants to escape from the stresses of working life for a week or two.

The eastern side of South Uist island is rocky, with a rugged chain of hills which are populated with deer, golden eagles and sheep. These are perfect for climbing on a clear day with stunning views right across the island and over the Minch to the Inner Hebrides.

The west coast of South Uist, in contrast, is fertile wild meadowland called 'machair', famous for its’ rare birdlife and wildflowers.

The machair gives way to miles of white sandy beaches - always empty and breathtaking in all weathers. Pulverised shells make the sand glisten white and silver, and the Gulf Stream coming in from America ensures that the sea is never too cold.

There are beautiful brightly coloured shells, dunes for shelter, sea birds of all varieties and the remains of some Neolithic wheel houses. The archaeology of Uist is extensive and well worth investigating. The most recent find of round houses with ‘mummies’ is close to the graveyard at Cladh Hallan,Daliburgh and is signposted.

Hebrides Self Catering is exquisite and at the Earth House you can watch dolphins and porpoises as they sometimes come into the beaches, and seals can be seen basking on the rocks - often on the crossing from Oban or Uig, the captain will point out basking sharks, the occasional a minky or orca whale.

The design of the house incorporates solatubes which ensure that it is bright and sunny, not dark as a cave, the name by which some people call the house.

The living area is spacious and airy with an under floor heating system throughout the house which ensures efficient comfort and warmth.

A stylish plasma fire is an attractive focal point of the living area which lends a cosy rather intimate feeling to an evening.

A Bose Ipod Docking Station, plasma T.V, DVD/Video Player are all available for your entertainment and there is free BT Broadband for use during your stay.

Jo Malone's innovative Scent Surround Cube subtly and continuously scents the house which is a brilliant way to fragrance the hideaway.

South Uist is one of the last bastions of the Gaelic language. Hear it being spoken in the shops in the "middle-district", the traditional heartland of the language.
Take yourself off to an island cèilidh and learn to dance the exhausting Strip the Willow or opt for a gentler St Bernard's Waltz.
While away the hours fishing, or do a round of golf on the Old Tom Morris golf course at Askernish.
If ancient temples, chambered cairns and standing stones interest you, then Uist is the place for you.
Why not visit the beautiful isle of Eriskay with its Jacobite connections, or venture further south to the Whiskey Galore isle of Barra, or north to the isle of Berneray with its glorious beaches stretching for miles and finish your day by visiting the award winning Taigh Chearsabhagh museum in Lochmaddy in North Uist.

	If you wish to leave the kitchen sink behind, dine out in the nearby Pollachar Inn which starred in the original Whiskey Galore film or watch the glorious sunsets off the west of Eriskay in the conservatory of the Politician Bar and restaurant.
	The whole of the Isle of Hebrides is fantastic for walkers, from the gentle shore walks to the extreme ascents of the Cuillin Mountains.
	The fishing is good, there is Loch fishing and a wide variety of coastal fishing.
